We received first place for "Best Place to Inspire Your Kids" and second place for "Best Toy Store" - I'm happy for that since it properly reflects our priorities - more than anything we strive to be a place that helps "kids" of all ages feel inspired and confident. The toys, games, craft kits and art supplies are just vehicles to achieve that goal and we don't even pretend to compete with the huge shopping center toy stores. Nonetheless, our local customers continually return to excitedly browse our store, delighted with the ever-changing selection of gifts and vacation entertainments we provide.

"I opened my store a month ago, and it's been great," said Marnie Delaney, owner of Doodlebug, a San Anselmo Avenue toy store. "Everyone has been so supportive. They have been, since the flood. I still don't know the names of everyone who helped out when I had 4 feet of mud in my store."

“The flood entered into the realm of disbelief for Marnie Delaney, owner of Doodlebug pottery studio who is no stranger to misfortune. The business was gutted during a fire on Christmas Eve 2003, and she reopened in June 2004.
“Pottery, bottles of paint, stuffed animals and other merchandise was scattered so badly that Delaney and her army of friends had to clear paths just to reach the back of the store. Even then, standing water and mud covered the floor.”

“I learned my lesson and won’t have as much extra stock on hand – so there will be a bit more space for people to do other projects. We’ll have a mosaic bar, canvasses, wood and other surfaces for people to paint and decorate. Alternatively, knitting a few holiday scarves, creating some beautiful greeting cards or making some special jewelry may satisfy someone’s creative needs…there will be lots of choices - we just want to provide a comfortable place and the resources to flex one’s creative muscles.”
