Still Space in Some Summer
Camps
There is still some space in
many of doodlebug's popular summer camps but
there may not be for long (and some are already
full) - so be sure to call soon to reserve your
spots - we are certain that you'll be glad you
did.
The schedule includes basic art
adventures and wheel-throwing (of course),
mosaic-making; glass-fusing (yahoo!); sewing (our most
popular class this year) and fashion design; recycled
art; robots; artist book-making; art 4 & from
the garden; claymation & cartooning.
Classes will be held at
doodlebug in one of our two classrooms (641 San Anselmo
Avenue) as well as at the Marin Art & Garden Center
and at the Kent School (as part of Ross Rec's afternoon
program).
The complete schedule is listed below or your
can c heck our
website
www.doodlebugmarin.com: look at the calendar and
then you can click on any class to find
out all the details. Or come by the store
OR send us an email at kidartistry@aol.com with any questions or just ask the kids
what they want to do!
We know this is going to be a very
special summer and we kept our camp prices down in the
hopes of seeing as many campers as possible!

THE ANSWER TO "WHAT
IS THERE TO DO THIS
SUMMER?" Whether you are at home, visiting
family or on the road, summer is a time for
spending quality time together AND for having
fun. At doodlebug, we try
to give you all the help you need to prepare for this
special time.
We have games, puzzles, activity
books, craft kits and art supplies - and that
is just the start of it. Wikki stix, magnetic play
sets and calico critters are all fantastic
plane and car "entertainers". Mosaic stepping
stones are fun family projects and summer is a
fabulous time to begin a journal or scrapbook.
The studio at doodlebug is also OPEN EVERY DAY AT
10 AM (until 7 pm Sunday - Wednesday and until 9 pm
Thursday - Saturday). So, you can come by any day
(NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED!) and paint pottery
or wood boxes or other
items, make a mosaic gekko or some other creature, knit
some neckwear, create a colorful canvas, or decoupage a
photo album made from paper bags - there are
endless ways to satisfy your inner artist in the
doodlebug studio. Fun
samples, no objection to a mess and a relaxed
atmosphere are key - along with a ginormous selection of
materials and more ideas than we know what to do
with.
We look forward to seeing you soon and
hope you'll stop by to check out all we have to
offer if you haven't been by recently.
And, of course, don't forget pajama nights!
Check www.doodlebugmarin.com for the pj
night schedule and more info, directions and the
like.

New Parties We
Love! The Options are
Endless
doodlebug now has two great
party rooms! One is at the back of the store
and one is out off our "secret courtyard" adjacent
to the new "crafty recycler studio". We've
had birthday parties, girl scout meetings, wedding
& baby showers, family reunions, team-building
sessions, businesses holiday parties, and many a
"mom's night out"!
We've designed and sewn Ugly
Dolls and insects, we've made gorgeous books from paper
bags, we've thrown clay on the wheel, we've
mosaic-ed mirrors and decoupaged jewelry boxes. We
have even learned to draw and paint. Then, of
course, we had cake!
We would love to help you
plan your next special occasion and want you to know
that there are an almost infinite number
of ideas and activities we can "bring to the
party". Which reminds us, we also can help you
organize a doodlebug "party-to-go" - so be sure to check
with us - or check our website at www.doodlebugmarin.com.

You can still drop in on
many of our Spring Classes (just call ahead, if
possible, to be
sure) Open Studio times for
Knitting, Sewing, Wheel-throwing and more!!
Check out our Spring class
schedule at
www.doodlebugmarin.com. When you look at the
calendar, be sure to click on the class that interests
you and you'll get lots of details about the class -
from descriptions to prices. Two of our
more popular "drop-in" opportunities are our open
studio sessions. We have open studio times so that you
can come in during a certain time frame and work
on the wheel, or a sewing machine, or on some
felting...and there will be a teacher available if you
need help, to learn some basics or perhaps to solve a
tricky problem with a new technique you are
attempting.
We also have a variety of
classes for 2 and ups and some wonderful after school
classes for older kids. Check the website at www.doodlebugmarin.com for details -
and call as at 415.456.5989 to check out the status of a
particular class!

GIFT CARDS are a smart
summertime tool
Many customers like to use them to
send the kids to doodlebug during the summer while
teaching them to manage their own "budget".
These cards are rung up like a credit card
and can be purchased in any amount - they can also
be "re-filled".
Of course, they are also a super
gift - many people like to accompany the
folks to whom they give them for some special
"painting" time at doodlebug.

SET UP A
PRIVATE CLASS OR PARTY THIS SUMMER!!!
With two party rooms
and many super creative teachers at the
ready, doodlebug is a great resource for
learning and for "fun things to do with your
friends". Whether you are involved in a
home-schooling group or just want to learn how to throw
on the pottery wheel, make a glass-fused plate or
sew an "Ugly Doll", we encourage you to let us know and
we can work with you to arrange a private class (or
series of classes). Lately we've heard the old
"I'm not creative" phrase a few times too often - it
usually means, "I don't think I can draw" - or, perhaps,
"someone once made fun of my art project"! We'd
like to prove you wrong. So let us set up a
drawing & painting class and get lose your fear of
"creativity". We are pretty sure you've got "it"
in you - and we'd like to help you let it out!
Alternatively, if you
have a group of friends who just like to get together
and paint or draw or play with clay or decoupage or knit
or WHATEVER - we have space available in which you
can gather - and, as a bonus, you'll be close to a
plethora of materials, resources and ideas which may
help you reach new heights of creativity! Our
rental rates are extremely modest so please check in
with us and make use of a unique meeting
place.

Marin Stitching
Club 4 Kids to be Featured at May 2 MAGiC Spring Garden
Festival
The Marin Stitching Club 4
Kids will be participating in the MAGiC Spring
Garden Festival at the Marin Art & Garden
Center. The focus will be on
allowing the new "Marin Stitching Club 4 Kids"
Group to demonstrate some of their skills and "recruit"
for new members. The Marin Needle Arts Guild
will also have other displays and
demonstrations and will show off some of their
favorite projects to build awareness of what they
do and to let everyone in on the joys of the needle
arts!
The MAGiC Spring Garden Festival
(on May 2 from 10 - 5 PM at the Marin Art & Garden
Center) will be a fun day full of activities for
the whole family (exhibits, lectures, entertainment,
activities for kids, food and the chance to stroll
the gardens with some of your best friends and
neighbors. You may want to invite all your
friends and family to attend - tickets will be
$5 ($3 for seniors,people with disabilities and
children 8+ and free for children 7 and under). For more
information see www.magc.org.
The Marin Stitching Club 4 Kids
was recently established by The Marin Needle Arts
Guild to welcome Primary, Middle and High School
students from throughout the County into the world of
needle arts. In addition to classes,
workshops and social gatherings, the Junior
Division will carry on the tradition of the overall
Guild and will create items to be donated to the
organizations they select (such as senior services
organizations, veteran's hospitals or shelters).
As a first project, driven by some of the students in
Barsha Elzey's sewing class
at doodlebug, the kids have
recently created "chemo caps" for local patients
who might need them - both children and
adults.
Knitting, sewing, felting,
beading and embroidery are just some of the activities
undertaken by the Guild. Meetings for
the Marin Stitching Club 4 Kids will
take place at doodlebug, with additional
opportunities to participate at regular Guild meetings
held in Terra Linda as well as special events designed
specifically for new "junior" members to be held in
various locations including The Marin Art & Garden
Center.

all you do!" are some of the messages we see
every Spring on cards, cups, plates, bowls, boxes,
pitchers, vases, flower pots and more. We hope
you'll remember to allow time to create a special gift
for someone you love and appreciate, too!
