doodlebug Supports Dog Rescue!
Pets Unlimited is a full-service pet-care facility and adoption service, located in San Francisco. They are a tremendous resource when looking for a pet and an incredible group of people who are making a difference in saving the lives of countless animals who would otherwise be sacrificed.
Petfinder.com is a great website to search a network of public animal facilities and private rescue organizations for the pet of your dreams.
Meet Murphy
We found Murphy (2/03) at Tehama County Animal Control in Red Bluff (marked urgent!) via a search on Petfinder.com after we lost Matthew (the dignified Airedale/German Shepherd from the Marin Humane Society who helped us open doodlebug) . Murphy is probably an Airedale/Golden Retriever combo but dignified is definitely not part of his behavior repetoire. While we enjoy his exuberant and loving nature he is a perpetual wriggler and a prolific shedder. He also fancies himself boss of doodlebug owner Marnie Delaney's house. He may be right. He has very cool eyebrows, by the way.
Meet Malachy
Malachy (mal-a-key) joined us in May of 2003, after being rescued from the Sacramento Shelter by our friends at Pets Unlimited. He is about the same age as Murphy and looks like his adopted brother, although he is black to Murphy's gold and, at 101 pounds, he's a bit bigger. We think he's a mixture of Lab and Irish Wolfhound, which would explain his moodier nature. Nonetheless, he is a totally loving and lovable creature with a wonderful tilt to his head that makes us sometimes think he is on to us! He definitely prefers to sleep with at least a paw resting on Marnie or Murphy.
Malachy has taught Murphy his obsession with tennis balls - the two of them are a perfect baseball (or maybe soccer) team unto themselves. Meanwhile, Murphy has shared his sweet tooth and passion for people food with Malachy.
We are delighted that the two creatures have found each other and us and we hope that you'll join us in supporting Malachy's benefactors at Pets Unlimited or the rescue organization of your choice.
Meet Mr. Lucky
Mr. Lucky was discovered at the Marin Humane Society when I was there purchasing a new "sensation harness" (a life saver, by the way) for Malachy (he ate the last one). A Havanese mix, he is apparently used to alpha position in his old household and so he and Murphy are occasionally involved in small altercations. However, given his relative size (20 pounds to the other guys' 100 pounds+ each) he has agility and the ability to re-locate to tiny spaces on his side. He is a combination of extremely feisty and a bit of a goofy lap dog which, apparently, is appropriate to the Havanese personality. Mr. Lucky has provided some new opportunities for exercize for the big guys as well as some new opportunities for entertainment for those of us who watch him crawling all over his brothers. Mr. Lucky is also known as "the little guy" but either way, I think I'm the lucky one to have another sweet boy in the herd.
